Groom says his ex's name at the altar and the video is shocking: "Ross and Rachel moment"

Groom says his ex's name at the altar and the video is shocking: "Ross and Rachel moment"

Of all the things that can go wrong in a wedding, calling your new husband or wife by the wrong name when saying your vows is probably at the top of the list.

One groom found this out the hard way when he was mortified after accidentally calling his bride by her ex-girlfriend's name while saying his vows.

Yes, it seems like a lie or a scene from the series Friends, in which Ross says Rachel's name at the altar while marrying Emily, but it is real and happened in a registry office in Bedfordshire, England.

The bride, Rebecca Fildes, shared a video on TikTok of the moment she exchanged vows with Andrew Fildes. In the cut, the groom calls her "Sarah" at the altar, his ex-girlfriend's name.

The video, which went viral, was posted with the caption: “When your new husband calls you by your ex-girlfriend’s name.”

Luckily for Andrew, Rebecca saw the funny side of the whole situation and burst out laughing when he called her by the wrong name. Andrew quickly corrected the mistake, and seemed unaware of the mistake during his vows. This is because Rebecca's middle name is Sarah.

Andrew told the Daily Mail it was his worst nightmare : "It's my worst nightmare to say my ex's name, but to be fair, it's Rebecca's middle name, so I got her name mixed up when I said it." He described the situation as a "real-life Ross and Rachel moment."

"I was trying really hard and stood in front of friends and family trying not to say the wrong words," he recalled. "I was shaking and sweating, so I was trying to get through the ceremony since I don't like standing in front of people."

The groom also commented that he hadn't realized the mistake. "It's just one of those things, but it's a pretty common name. Even though she's my ex, we've been separated for 10 years. I'm glad she [Rebecca] saw the funny side. She loves to tease me, and it happens often. I don't take it too seriously, but it's still awkward."

Despite the whole situation, Rebecca said she wasn't bothered. "We have the kind of relationship where I don't think he did it for any other reason than he made a mistake," Rebecca told the Daily Mail. "I just laughed it off, and we still laugh about it. I still say he owes me a real wedding now, where he gets my name right."
